Very nice! Maybe you should do a "how-to" on the convention for us that have never tried but would like to

Thanks. I may go and do that, but honetsly, it may be a little anticlimactic. :) It wasn't hard at all.

Not to get too off-topic... But I just searched around online for directions.

Basically you cut rectangles of cloth and layer them onto each-other while coating them with resin or epoxy.

I got cheap ($15) fiberglass resin for my first attempts. Epoxy is a bit too expensive for me to experiment with, but I hear you get better results (harder) with it.
Thanks for the info.

Nice! What did you have to do to convert it?

Any treatment to the walnut? I'm digging the color.
Thanks. I just had to drill a hole in the blade (3/64) and put a coil spring in. No treatment on the walnut yet. I ave some rams horn that I will ultimately use but this was a first for me so I didn't want to ruin my only piece of rams horn.

I think I will have to get one of those IZULAs. I've been making some home-grown 'micarta' with denim that would be fun to attach to it.
I want to see that pic when you get it done. How did you make the micarta? Can you point me to some good sources for learning?

How do you like the handle? I was thinking of getting one for mine, but am not sure how much bulk it will add under my shirt. Will it start leaving a bulge under a tshirt and such?

Sharpening and Care / Sharper on one side
« on: February 16, 2017, 04:12:18 am »
Let me start by saying that I am a newbie. Now that being established, As I sharpened, I noticed that one side felt sharper even though I was sharpening both sides of the knife. Riddle me this... If it feels sharper from the left, does that mean I should actually work the right side of the blade to even it out or visa versa?

Metallurgy / Heat treating characteristics
« on: February 16, 2017, 04:07:50 am »
I want to start making knives and was wondering... What metal/s are easiest to heat treat but will not break the bank? I have heard that they all have different methods required, so can someone give me a quick education on this?

Also, can this be done on a budget or will I have to spend loads on materials?

Anybody ever built folders? I am thinking of building folders, but am wondering where's the best place to get started? I did a kit knife to see how the parts interact and to get experience with building handles, but beyond that, I am not sure. Liner lock, button lock, axis lock, lock back, friction??? Or should I just do fixed blades for a while until I get confident?

It's a tight race between these two.
